Black sesame soup - Zhi Ma Hu 芝麻糊
Black semsame soup is a popular Chinese/Hongkongnese dessert made of black sesame, rice and sugar, usually served hot.
According to Chinese medicine, black sesame replenishes blood, warms the body and is suitable for treatment of physical weakness. Furthermore, it is rich of ion and magnesium.
I know this dish since I am young and was recently craving for it. It was time to create my own version and it turned out to be really tasty. I mostly had it for breakfast or as a snack as it is filling and nutritious.
Here is what I used:
1 cup roasted black sesame
1 cup long grain rice or brown rice soaked in 2cups of water over night
1 cup rice milk
5 tsps honey (add more if you like it sweet)
4 tsps crunchy peanut butter
4 tsps wheat bran
1.) Blend seeds in blender with rice milk
2.) Put the mixture into a big pot
3.) Blend rice together with the water
4.) Add the mixture to the big pot
5.) Add all the other ingredients and boil on medium heat for 15-20 minutes
The soup will get thick really fast. Stir regularly to prevent burning.
Serve hot/warm/cold and enjoy ;)
